Although Reliance Insurance Agencies has grown into a company with over 100 employees, we pride ourselves on the fact that we operate like an over-sized family.
Our corporate responsibility starts at home with our own staff. But it extends to the greater community, and around the world.
Our corporate responsibility begins with each other
Alleviating a social problem begins with small steps, but that small step can impact the lives of many. Giving back has always been part of Reliance’s DNA.
In 2019 Jim Ball was awarded the Community Champion of the Year at the Insurance Brokers Association of BC, which is a testament to Jim’s philosophy of giving back. Reliance Insurance supports the staff in their endeavor to give back in whatever way is meaningful to the individual.
Bridges to Community Canada
Jim is a founding board member of Bridges to Community Canada, is a non-profit organization that alleviates poverty and focuses on improving the lives of people in a genuine and long-lasting way in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
Over the years, Jim and his son, Chris (also a member) have used corporate responsibility to make 20 combined house and school building trips to Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, and have raised over $200,000 towards the Bridges vision and goals.
Reliance Insurance provides the opportunity for staff to get involved with the project allowing them to travel and participate in the annual working trips. They get time off and air travel paid for – the catch – each person has to raise $4000, the amount it takes to build a house.
Each year the staff enthusiastically work together to help their teammate reach the goal. It is truly more than one community coming together for the greater good.
Our extended community
Directly and through the support for our staff and customers’ fundraising efforts, we have raised money and sponsored various organizations.
- PASS PALS Adult Services Society
- PALS Autism Society Gala
- Taskforce to End Homeless in Burnaby
- Greater Vancouver Food Bank
Golf Tournaments
- Blue Goose British Columbia Pond
- Delta Chamber of Commerce – DCC Annual Golf Tournament
- CAFS Annual Golf Tournament
- The Gary Dorman Memorial Charity Golf Tournament
Our contributions at times may be small but we believe together is better and over time we will make a big impact on the quality of life of someone less fortunate. We have our sleeves rolled up to give a helping hand when we can.
